Tanzania
Tanzania has the second highest mountain plateau in the world
(relative to its surroundings), the second largest and second
deepest lake in the world. It has the longest lake in the world
and the biggest wildlife reserve in Africa. One third of its area
consists of wildlife reserve, conservation areas or national parks.
The maasais are reknowned for being colourful but in all there
are 200 interesting tribes. Tanzania has relics of humanoids a
million years old. In spite of all this Tanzania has yet to be
discovered by mass tourism. The United Republic of Tanzania, with
a population 35 million, is East Africa's largest country and
lies just south of the equator on the Indian Ocean. With the introduction
of the country’s new Master Plan, investment will be concentrated
on developing the less crowded Southern Circuit, which includes
Selous, one of six UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Tanzania. The
other five are Mt. Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National
Park, Zanzibar's Stone Town and Kilwa Kisiwani/Songo Mnara ruins
in the Lindi region. Bagamoyo, the former centre of the slave
route, is also being proposed for a World Heritage listing. |

two of the world’s best known monuments of wildlife and
overwhelming nature. But Tanzania has yet more to offer: click

Culture
This family lives on hills close to Lake Victoria. They are poor
but happy and proud, and they are just as interested in meeting
you as you are in meeting them. You will be able to learn from
each other. |

Fishing
The Indian Ocean along the coast of East Africa has a relatively
large fish population. Not only is the area excellent for fishing
adventures but it can also provide memorable nature experiences.
Watch the king fishes as they hunt shrimps near the surface.
In Lake Victoria there are Nile perch weighing hundreds of kg!
Just a matter of reeling them in? No, it’s not that easy! |

Beaches
The Indian Ocean is just as inviting as it sounds.
Zanzibar or Mafia – After one of our tours or safaris
it is perfect to stay here for a couple of days and just relax.
Many other exotic beaches also await you. And even though they
seem like paradise they are quite secluded! |

Rain is falling
The rainy season has started again. It is the Masika,
"the ‘big rains’ which are arriving,
i.e. some evenings there will be thunderstorms. The
scents over the savanna are really something special.

Three female lions attacked a buffalo. A big buffalo bull
came to the rescue and the victim could rise after the
lions were hunted away. |

Lake Victoria
is a youngster which
now confuses scientists! An article on the subject was
published in January.
Lake Victoria is one of the world’s most unexploited
waters for tourism. Kihansi takes you out on this amazing
